As with any form of entertainment, there are certain games universally despised, and the 12 titles below represent the worst video games of all time. There are plenty of terrible video games out there, but there are not a ton that are so bad they cannot even break 25% on Metacritic. Many of the worst video games are movie-based or TV-series-based, and they suffer from lack of focus and care given to the development process.
The following games might be awful, but if there is one thing that bad video games do well, it is unite people around their shared terribleness. Some Seriously Bad Games That Are. there may be a few out there that may be partial to those games -- they are among the most poorly reviewed games in Metacritic history -- but it is hard to see it being out of anything but an ability to laugh about how completely terrible games are.
Certain video games have gained a lasting negative reception, otherwise considered to be bad games, usually due to issues like having poor-quality or dated graphics, lots of glitches, or bad controls. Over the years, going all the way back to Atari, there have been games released that were universally hated. Perhaps one of the best known video games that is not good is Superman 64.
You would not think that a game published by Square Enix would fall under the category of being one of the worst video games ever made, but Bulletproofs is just flat-out terrible. Despite promises of fixing things, there are still plenty of issues with the game, which is also the reason the console versions are among the worst video games ever made. Add to this Bulletproofs lack of a save function beyond the 99 levels, repetitive textures and graphics on each stage, and a tired gameplay experience, and you are looking at one of the worst games ever made.
Critically maligned and universally loathed, Charlies Angels is easily one of the worst games ever made. With horrible voice acting, completely clad sex scenes, broken gameplay, and a surfeit of fast-time events, it is not surprising that Plumbers Do not Wear Ties is frequently considered to be one of the worst games ever made. Worst of all, if you choose to attempt a runthrough, the game is not even that short. The worst thing about The Talos Principle is the fact that the main game is actually not all that bad.
The worst part is, the game would likely have been a lot of fun had it been released in more of a mainstream way. I am ranking Hotel Mario among the worst because the game damaged the reputation of Atari, and also of video games as a whole. While Shaq Fu had decent graphics and animations for the time it was in Shaq Fu, the game was panned for its stupid concepts, disappointing controls, and inconsistent hit tracking. Extreme Paintbrawl is considered to be possibly one of the worst games Ive seen in years, out of touch as much with reality as the wider gaming world.
Coupled with some slow, boring gameplay and bad character animation, The Wand of Gamelon received a mixed reception at first, but The Wand of Gamelon has proven over time to be one of the worst games featuring a Nintendo character. Big Rigs of course received horrible reviews, with many critics considering it to be the worst game ever made. Bubble Bobble Revolution currently has a 38/100 on Metacritic, based on 19 reviews. On Metacritic, Rogue Warrior has an aggregate score of 23 out of 100 from 39 critic reviews, ranking it the second-lowest-rated game for Xbox One, as of April 2015.
Fallout 76s metacritic scores on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms have an average score of around 51/100, with the user reviews being even more critical than for Custers Revenge. It has been listed by GameSpy as the Most Shameful Game Ever, the Third Worst Game Ever by PC World, and GameTrailers, and Seanbaby as the Ninth Worst Game Ever in Electronic Gaming Monthly. Club, Kotaku, Game Informer, and USgamer called Custers Revenge the worst game of the Legend of Zelda series, while staff at GamesRadar listed it as one of the worst video games of all time. In 2019, PC Gamer listed The Simpsons Wrestling among the worst PC games of all time, considering it to genuinely one of the worst first-person shooters in living memory, and similar to one of those direct-to-video action movies that you might have seen in the DVD rack at your garage, yet somehow stupider.
The only game in recent memory considered so bad it inspired a lawsuit by disgruntled gamers Colonial Marines is generally considered to be an overused, derivative first-person shooter*. This is essentially where core ideas in the games development are ignored or neglected, creating an awful gameplay experience for players. When a game achieves status of being one of the worst ever made, there is very little room for ambiguity: typically, the games appear incomplete, lacking basic elements for a pleasurable game play experience, and feeling like they were put together by developers with little passion for the project, and/or forced to work on them in time-sensitive, limited conditions. Feeling is appropriate, as the actual game is a collection of components that epitomize the worst video games, randomly strung together.
